IP firm celebrates 150th anniversary with bespoke microsite

A+I Transform 3

To celebrate its 150th anniversary, Abel+Imray, one of the longest established IP firms in the UK, worked with brand agency Mytton Williams to design a bespoke microsite and social media campaign that would showcase the breadth of pioneering clients they’ve worked with.

The campaign spans 2021, with 50 different innovations highlighted on a weekly basis. The microsite and social media campaign takes the viewer on a historical journey through the innovations Abel + Imray have helped trademark or patent, from the early invention of Bovril to the accidental invention of the microwave oven.

The campaign was created as a game, asking intriguing questions to help the viewer guess the invention. These are posted weekly throughout the year on social media. The answer is revealed on the microsite, which also contains all the other 50 inventions, so they too can be explored.

“Mytton Williams were the obvious choice to design the creative for our 150th anniversary, having taken Abel + Imray through our rebrand in 2015. We had a high level idea for this project and Hannah, Carl and Bob were able to help us work through the overall concept and give it a structure that would appeal to a broad audience,” says John Austin-Brooks, commercial manager at Abel + Imray.

The site can be filtered by year or sector, where you can read about, for example, the trademarking of Champagne connoisseurs, G. H Mumm in the 1870’s through to prosecuting the patent on the board game, Monopoly in the 1930’s.
