NYC-based branding and package design firm, Little Big Brands, worked with Indian food brand, Maya Kaimal, to update its product packaging design and improve the product’s brand awareness.

The challenge was to make the packaging design both more bold and purposeful, while also infusing more of the person Maya Kaimal, brand namesake and cookbook author, in the brand.

Pamela Long, Little Big Brands’ director of client services, explains that the agency’s goal was to tell Kaimal’s rich family history and story in a compelling, relevant and inspiring way.

“A key component of the design challenge was identifying how to optimise Maya Kaimal’s equities so they worked harder for the brand, which included increasing recognition with a more impactful brand identity,” Long says.

“We also created the tagline ‘Inspired Indian Foods’ and infused the packaging with bespoke patterns fueled by Maya’s own love for Indian textiles,” she adds.

The patterns were designed to allow for a portfolio segmentation that consumers can easily understand, navigate and shop.

"Doing a brand refresh was something I’d thought about for years, but finding a partner I trusted to do it was a huge decision. Little Big Brands was a fantastic partner on this project,” says Maya Kaimal, founder and chief creative officer of Maya Kaimal.
