R/GA Australia wins big at AGDA Design Awards 2022

AGDA 2

The Australian Graphic Design Association, which exists to represent the country’s communication design industry, hosted its yearly design awards that capture the breadth of Australian design, from ‘Brand and Identity’ to ‘Student Print’. R/GA’s new Brand Design & Consulting practice took home the highly sought-after ‘Best in Show’ award for its work with Indigenous social enterprise We Are Warriors.

The global digital product and marketing company’s work over eighteen months saw the creation of an initiative which hopes to put the spotlight on Indigenous role models in Australia. Helping to tackle what the social enterprise deems to be systemic racism against the country’s Aboriginal peoples, R/GA turned to partner with the likes of Nooky, a Yuin Nation hip hop artist, to bring about positive change.

The platform designed by R/GA, that aims to support the next generation of leaders and role models through partnerships, product collaborations and documentaries, scooped up four ‘Pinnacle’ awards across categories that included ‘Brand & Identity’ and ‘Design For Good’, along with winning the prestigious ‘Best in Show’.

Ben Miles, VP, executive creative director, brand design & consulting, APAC at R/GA says, “To win ‘Best in Show’ at AGDA, which is predominantly dominated by more established branding agencies, is really humbling and even more so considering our Brand Design & Consultancy practice is still in a progressive stage.

“Over the last two and a half years, we’ve accelerated our reputation and built a radical new team with a high-performing and collaborative culture, to deliver meaningful design for our brand partners. Congratulations to everyone for all the energy, dedication and brilliance. Especially our teams and brand partners on We Are Warriors, MOCA, A-Leagues and Timberland for being so brave.”

Alongside R/GA and We Are Warriors in AGDA Design Awards’ ‘Brand and Identity’ category, Black Star Pastry and Studio Ongarato were also rewarded for their project with a Pinnacle. The design agency, based in Melbourne, created a new typographic logo for the boutique Sydney bakery, described as ‘Cute Brutalism’. Studio Ongarato was also responsible for designing the overall brand identity, packaging and signage.
